Improvised Plays From Austin Texas
It’s really satisfying to see and Improv troupe that know what they’re doing. Parrallelophonograph perform genre based improvisation, and they do it well! They’ve been performing together for six years and it shows. Lots of laughter and none of the basic mistakes that can so easily screw up long form improv.  ...

The Kingsley and I - FREE
We saw this a few days ago and have been a bit lax putting it up. This is free stand up on in Espionage (which is cool). We were particularly impressed by the compere Ben Van Der Velde who is both an excellent comic and great at interacting with the audience. The final slot is a guest slot so it can be a bit pot luck as to who is there but that could be someone awesome. ...

Thom Tuck Goes Straight to DVD
The final show in our hunting of the Penny Dreadfuls. He has watched all of the Disney straight-to-DVD films ever released and it makes for a good hour of standup. We enjoyed it! http://www.edfringe.com/whats-on/comedy/thom-tuck-goes-straight-to-dvd

The American Family
Saw this last night at theSpaces on North Bridge and I have to say I really enjoyed it. It’s a piece of theatre that interweaves monologues about events from the actors lives with physical theatre. Now that might sound a bit like “art” but it was actually a very enjoyable show that explores family relationships and growing up. Good show!

David Reed - Shamble House
Saw this last night and had a good time. It’s a selection of comedic characters from 1/3rd of the Penny Dreadfuls, and while we preferred ”Nazi Smasher” (from a different 1/3rd of the Dreadfuls), it’s still a good show worth a look.

Devvo - Get High with Donny Soldier FREE
This is shock comedy that wont be for everyone but we did enjoy. If you don’t like jokes about domestic violence/rape/etc then this show isn’t for you. Still here? Then read on! Here’s his blurb- Internet sensation Devvo comes to Edinburgh. After his latest stint in jail for all of the murders, he’s back. Described by the Sun as ‘The vilest man in Britain.’ Devvo comes to...

Top Five Money Savers (stolen from Fest magazine!)
Half price hut (though you heard it here first!) Previews (all over now alas!) PBH Free Fringe and Laughing Horse Free Fringe - Great way of seeing shows without breaking the bank. A lot of good shows are on in the free fringes because they don’t charge the acts for using the venues (and putting on a show at the fringe is not cheap). Will do our best to put the one’s we’ve...

The Best Fringe Alternative Comedy FREE Show
What’s the fringe without bizarre shows? Don’t get us wrong, we had a great time at this show, but it is mental. Probably best described as absurdist humour this show is energetically performed and generates a lot of laughter. What’s more, is that it’s free! Mental, odd, entertaining and worth watching. http://www.laughinghorsecomedy.co.uk/dynamic/show.asp?ShowID=543

Dymock Watson Nazi Smasher
Saw this this evening and had a great time. A one man comedy show in the vein of where eagles dare/guns of navarone/etc from one third of the sketch troupe, The Penny Dreadfuls. Good fun and no hesitation in recommending it! http://www.edfringe.com/whats-on/comedy/humphrey-ker-is-dymock-watson-nazi-smasher

BABY WANTS CANDY
Not a cheap show, but worth the money. Slick improvised songs, energetic performances and laughs a plenty as this group improvised a full musical with a live band. All that and we got to see moose sex (it made sense in context… well, more sense). Great fun! http://www.assemblyfestival.com/webpages/whatson_moreinfobooknow.php#title

Festival Of The Spoken Nerd FREE
For one night only but highly recommended! A science comedy mash up that is still suitable for people unfamiliar with the finer points of string theory. Here’s their blurb! The sold-out London sensation comes to the Edinburgh Fringe with a comedy hour for the fearlessly inquisitive. We’re chosen our favourite bits from the first six months of FOTSN shows, and put them all together...

Half Price Hut!
The Half Price Hut opens on Wednesday August the 10th. Various shows will send an amount of their tickets to the hut and just because they’re on offer doesn’t mean that the shows are awful. Often there will be shows in huge professional venues, like Assembly, which know they’re unlikely to sell out so will try to increase their audience numbers and hence generate better word of...

Supermarkets
It may sound trivial but on our first visit to the fringe festival we found it difficult to find supermarkets (internet phones weren’t quite so prominent then). As a result we’ve put up a list of supermarkets near the centre of Edinburgh where you can by food for making lunches etc. Sainsbury’s near Waverly Station map Tesco near Festival Theatre and Surgeons Hall map Sainsbury’s near Gilded...

The Tron
This scream pub at the bottom of the “flyering zone” on The Royal Mile is often crowded but does cheap food and drinks. Favourites being the beer and a burger for £4.50 from 3pm and various meals on two for £6 deals all day. If you can find a space then cheap meals await. map
